The Vixen - Reclaiming 'South Side Trash'
The ‘TRASH’ outfit depicted in the painting was conceptualized to represent the ‘South Side Trash’ movement that The Vixen began after condemning hatred from white gay men toward Queer Black youth from the Southside of Chicago at Chicago Pride. This outfit was meant to represent The Vixen’s signature silhouette of that era, optimized for her max-energy dance performances; a bodysuit to accentuate every curve and thigh-high dancing boots. The Vixen created a variety of unique pieces of drag made out of trash bags and other unconventional materials to accompany her bold performances that centered Queer Black voices.
